A backtester answers one question: would this rule have made money on this history. That question is easy to ask and nearly worthless to answer, because it holds constant everything that actually determines an equity curve — how much was risked, how many positions were open, how correlated they were, what they cost, and whether anything reduced size when the account was in trouble. This application is built to vary those things deliberately and report what happens.
